Daily Picks Explained: Strong Trends, Early Momentum, and Pullback Entries

WSOB Team

What Are Daily Picks?

Daily Picks is a WSOB Gold-tier feature that surfaces the most actionable stocks each day, organized by three distinct strategies:

  1. Strong Trends — The highest-conviction momentum plays
  2. Early Momentum — Stocks at the start of a potential new trend
  3. Pullback Entry — Dip-buying opportunities within existing trends

Each category uses different scoring criteria to identify setups, so you always have multiple types of opportunities to choose from.

Strong Trends

What It Shows

Stocks scoring +8.5 or higher with all scoring components strongly bullish. These are the undeniable leaders — stocks where momentum is at its strongest.

How They're Selected

  • Score of +8.5 to +10
  • Bullish regime confirmed
  • High alignment (3/4 or 4/4)
  • Sustained score levels (not a one-day spike)

How to Trade Them

The thesis: These stocks are in powerful uptrends. The goal is to ride the trend, not to buy the bottom.

  • Entry: Buy on minor dips (score dips 0.5-1 point) or on consolidation days
  • Stop-loss: Below the most recent pullback low
  • Target: Trail your stop — let the trend run as long as the score stays above +7
  • Exit signal: Score drops below +7 or alignment drops to 2/4

Who They're For

Momentum traders who want to hold positions for days to weeks. These are "strong hands" trades where you need patience.

Early Momentum

What It Shows

Stocks where faster-reacting components are leading others upward, signaling the early stages of a potential new trend. The score is rising rapidly but hasn't peaked yet.

How They're Selected

  • Score improving significantly over the past 5-7 days
  • Some components are more bullish than others
  • The stock is transitioning from range to bullish regime
  • Alignment is improving (1/4 → 2/4 → 3/4)

How to Trade Them

The thesis: You're catching a trend early, before the full move happens.

  • Entry: Buy when the score crosses above +4 (regime change to bullish)
  • Stop-loss: Below the pre-breakout range
  • Target: Hold until the stock reaches Strong Trend territory (+8.5+)
  • Exit signal: Score fails to keep rising and drops back into range territory

Who They're For

Traders who want to catch moves early and are willing to accept higher uncertainty for larger potential gains.

The Risk

Not every early momentum signal becomes a sustained trend. Some stocks pop into bullish territory and fall back. That's why stop-losses matter.

Pullback Entry

What It Shows

Recently high-scoring stocks that have pulled back while the broader trend remains strong. These are potential dip-buying opportunities.

How They're Selected

  • Score recently reached +7 or higher
  • Current score has pulled back to the +4 to +6 range
  • Most scoring components remain bullish
  • Regime is still bullish (not shifted to range)

How to Trade Them

The thesis: The long-term trend is intact, and the pullback is temporary. You're buying at a discount within a strong trend.

  • Entry: Buy when the score stabilizes or starts rising again after the pullback
  • Stop-loss: Below the +3 level or if the regime shifts to range
  • Target: Back to previous highs (the score level before the pullback)
  • Exit signal: Score drops below +3 or regime changes

Who They're For

Traders who prefer better risk/reward and are willing to wait for dips rather than chasing breakouts.

Choosing Your Strategy

Strategy Risk Level Reward Potential Holding Period
Strong Trends Lower Moderate Days to weeks
Early Momentum Higher Highest Days to weeks
Pullback Entry Moderate Good Days

Mix and Match

You don't have to choose just one. A balanced approach:

  • 1-2 Strong Trend positions for steady performance
  • 1 Early Momentum position for upside potential
  • 1 Pullback Entry when the setup appears

Key Takeaways

  • Strong Trends = highest conviction, ride the momentum
  • Early Momentum = highest potential, catch the trend early
  • Pullback Entry = best risk/reward, buy the dip within a strong trend
  • Use all three categories to build a diversified set of positions
  • Always use stop-losses — no setup is guaranteed
